Women and Motorcycles Are Such a Sight to Behold

Women and Motorcycles Are Such a Sight to Behold
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jenny_Carson]Jenny Carson

Things have changed nowadays and gender equality has been practiced even in extreme sports as motorcycle riding. In the past, the sport has been thought to be exclusively for men. All the gear associated with motorcycle riding has also been designed for male use. Now, everything has changed because ladies have taken an interest in the sport too. Apparel manufacturers have come to realize this fact and have catered to ladies needs by providing several options for their motorcycle riding fashion style.

Today, it is very easy to see stores online and offline who are selling women's motorcycle gear. These gears come in all sizes, shapes, and styles that make it fun for shopping. Great motorcycle names such as Harley Davidson also makes these gears more accessible to brand conscious women by introducing their own women's Harley Davidson boots line. They even have their own jacket, gloves, and trousers collection which will complement their boots.

Motorcycle jackets for women have seen a big change over the years. Black has been a biker's color but nowadays, almost any color is possible to wear on a motorcycle. Women of today are no longer limited to the basic black; in fact, jackets are one way of making your personality stand out from the rest. Bright colored jackets are very eye-catching and are perfect gifts to give.

Women off a motorcycle are sexy enough, what more when they are on one. What makes women sexier on the motorcycle is the boots that she is wearing. Sexiness can be personified in the boots that one is wearing. Boots from the women's Harley Davidson boots collection exemplify the sexiness of a woman by creating several styles which has various details like buckles, straps, heels, and fringes. These boots may come in black but they still give a woman the sexy edge.

To completely match the woman's motorcycle apparel, a handsome looking pair of gloves is necessary for an accent. The choice is up to you whether or not you want your gloves to complement your jacket or you want it to be the focal point of your entire outfit. Usually, gloves are sold together with jackets. But if you want an entirely different glove collection you can use, then feel free to mix and match your gloves. Just make sure though that the gloves are really intended for women.

Lastly, the helmet may be a piece of protective device but it is also something that shows the world your personality. Having a beautiful helmet brings the point down especially when you cruise down the road. You can even have it personalized by having it airbrushed. The only thing that will limit you when you have your helmet personalized is your imagination as almost all styles and designs can be made.

It is a good thing that these items are already available for women because motorcycles and women really look great together. There is something sexy about a woman on a motorcycle and it is even made sexier by accessorizing with these protective gears.

Motorcycle Sidecars - Making Your Motorcycle a More Convenient Mode of Transportation

Motorcycle Sidecars - Making Your Motorcycle a More Convenient Mode of Transportation
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ilse_Hagen]Ilse Hagen

A lot of people prefer motorcycles as their main mode of transportation because of the convenience in size, ease of maintenance, and the fact that it is relatively cheaper than owning a car. Furthermore, owners need not worry about getting stuck in traffic all the time because they can just squeeze their way through small passageways-something that even the smallest car could not do. But what happens when you have to use your motorcycle to transport your friends or your family? How can you let at least 2 adults sit behind you without worrying about falling or toppling over?

Additional seats

Don't worry because there are such things as motorcycle sidecars that you can attach to your motorcycle's side to turn it into a tricycle. The motorcycle sidecar is a vehicle with one wheel and, when attached to your motorcycle, it allows more room for passengers to ride with you. Aside from that, you can also use it to transport cargo. Some sidecars also have a rear trunk where you can put your things. A rooftop, windshield, and door can also be included with the sidecar.

Choose your sidecar

Motorcycle sidecars come in fiberglass and steel varieties. Both have great loading capacities and attach to a motorcycle with 4 bolts. For something durable and strong, steel is a good choice. You can also use it when you have to pass through rough terrains or be subjected to the toughest riding conditions. Steel sidecars also have a big loading capacity and you can match their styles and colors with your motorcycle. They can also come with a locking trunk, rubber floor mat, windshield, and a luggage rack.

On the other hand is the fiberglass sidecar which is also durable but more stylish. It can also accommodate varying loads and comes with an external gas tank, locking trunk, crumble zone, and a windshield. Fiberglass motorcycle sidecars are also equipped with safety features including a lockable door and a seatbelt, making them ideal for taking passengers for a ride.

Important information

Complete information on motorcycle sidecars is available at PickyGuide, the authority in free consumer advice. Access top-ranked, best-reviewed, and most competitively priced sidecars in PickyGuide's recommended products section.

How to Sponsor a Poker Run

How to Sponsor a Poker Run
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Woody_Longacre]Woody Longacre

My first motorcycle was a 1943 Flat Head Harley Davidson. When I found the bike for sale I had no money, but I knew I wanted this dream machine. I wasn't making enough money to pay for it so I needed a plan. I came up with a way to raise money and throw a great party at the same time. I organized a Poker Run. I made enough money to buy the Harley, had a few bucks left over and had allot of fun along the way.

The Poker Run was originally an event bikers played out on their Harley, but over the years it has been borrowed by Boaters, Runners, Bicyclist and I'm sure by others as well. The concept of a Poker Run is to travel a course or route and while doing so pick up poker cards along the way. Each person makes a 5 card poker hand from the cards they collect with the best hand winning money or prize. The way this is carried out for bikers is, each biker travels the planed route, every few miles there is a checkpoint at which each biker must stop and pickup a poker card. There are 7 checkpoints with the 7th checkpoint being at the final destination. Once all riders have reached the end, the rider with the best 5 card poker hand wins a grand prize. There can be variations to the prize scheme but the idea is to award cash or merchandise prizes at the end.

Sponsoring a poker run is fairly simple but takes time and some not so hard work. The first thing you need to do is plan the travel route and positioning of the check points. The route should be laid out so that the last check point is at the final destination. This is where the Poker Run party will be held. In order to do this you may need to get approval from the cities you plan to travel your poker run through, there may be some paperwork and fees for this. Always check with the city municipalities to ensure compliance with local laws.

At the end of the run is a park or event facility, somewhere where a biker crowd can hang their hat for a few hours. Depending on where you live you may need a permit (especially if alcohol will be served) for the park. Of course you will need permission for any kind of event hall or facility you plan to use.

Next you need to do a little financial planning. By figuring out how much you will use for prize money and how much the party after the Poker Run will cost, you can calculate how many riders you'll need and what the entrance fee will be. Keep in mind entrance fees should be less then $100 per bike, charge too much and the turn out will be poor. A word of caution here, be sure you do a good job of knowing the total cost of the event. Poor math can quickly turn a profit into a loss.

The next thing you will need to do is register riders. The best way to do this is to make a website where registration can be made and money can be collected. This of course may be more than you want to do so the old fashion method of mail-in or phone-in registration will work just as well. Along with registering riders for your poker run, you should also sell tickets to friends and others that just may simply want to attend the party after the ride is over. A scheme where a certain cost for the bike and it's rider and another much lower cost for a passenger is a good approach.

To advertise, leave flyers and posters at biker bars, biker events and motorcycle shops in your area. If you are looking for a big crowd, run an ad on a local Radio Station, this will cost you some up front money but you can get the message to allot of people. Also if you're into the internet thing, you can run a Banner Ad advertisement on relevant websites. Keep in mind your marketing efforts should be localized, most bikers are only looking for a day event and will not travel far for a poker run.

Finally, careful planning of the party can be made once you have a good idea of the number of participants. If your party is small you can either buy your own food and enlist your friends and associates to help, or you can hire local catering services to handle it all. Some thought should be given to the kind of activities you may want to have during the party as well. Oh and make sure you plan to have a prize award ceremony that charms the crowd. Don't be cheap here, bikers won't let you get away with that! If beer is being served and or provided, special care and planning should be taken to preserve life and limb.

Now if all is planned and carried out correctly you can expect to cover costs, ensure everyone has a good time and make a little extra to help buy that next Harley. Best of luck and have fun!

A Brief History of Indian Motorcycle - Part 1

A Brief History of Indian Motorcycle - Part 1
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tim_Joseph]Tim Joseph

Indian Motorcycle Co. was born as the Hendee Manufacturing Company by George M. Hendee and Carl Oscar Hedstrom (pictured above with the first prototype of Indian). It was the first American motorcycle company and the most popular in the world by the time the New York Times wrote the paragraph above. Both men were former bicycle racers who got together to build a 1.74 bhp, single cylinder engine in Hendee's home town of Springfield, MA. The bike was a huge success and sales increased drastically during the next 10 years.

Indian Motorcycle was very innovative. In 1901 the prototype and two production models we successfully designed, built and tested. Work began in previous years. In 1902 the first Indian motorcycles, featuring innovative belt-drives and streamline styling were sold to the public. In 1903 Indian co-founder and chief engineer Oscar Hedstrom set a world motorcycle speed record by riding 56 mph.

In 1904, the diamond framed Indian Single was made available in deep red. This color would become Indian's trademark. By this time production was up to over 500 bikes per year and would rise to 32,000 in 1913. It's best year ever.

In 1906 Indian built its first V-Twin engine. 101 years later the V-Twin is the most popular engine style in the world. The following year Indian made a strong showing in racing and record breaking. In 1914 Erwin "Cannonball" Baker, who set many long-distance record, rode an Indian across American from San Diego to New York in a record 11 days, 12 hours and 10 minutes. Baker's engine of choice in the following years was the Powerplus, a side-valve V-Twin which was introduced in 1916. It was a 1000cc, 42 degree V-Twin which was more powerful and quieter than previous designs, giving it a top speed of 60 mph. The design was highly successful both as a roadster and as a racing bike. It remained in production until 1924.

Oscar Hedstrom left Indian in 1913 over a disagreement with the Board of Directors regarding dubious practices to inflate the company's stock values. George Hendee resigned in 1916.

How to Prevent Thieves Catching a Ride on Your Motorcycle

How to Prevent Thieves Catching a Ride on Your Motorcycle
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_Regan]Andrew Regan

It seems the lure of the motorcycle is attracting an increasing number people keen to experience the exhilaration such transportation offers. Indeed, in recent years ownership has grown rapidly as more people are taking to the roads on two wheels.

Aside from getting to don the leathers and speed off into the sunset, there are many advantages of owning a motorcycle. Not only can you gain great satisfaction in weaving through those pesky inner city traffic jams, but a lot of the bikes available are also more cost- and fuel-efficient than automobiles.

However, it is an unfortunate fact that the number of motorcycle thefts is increasing. In fact, according to UK research, there are more motorbikes being stolen than being bought new. Government statistics also concluded that out of every 1,000 motorbikes registered on the road, around 37 are stolen. This compares to just 10 car thefts out of every 1,000 registered.

Most thefts are said to occur in the larger, urban areas, whilst around 80 per cent are taken from the owner's home. The research also found that it can take as little as 20 seconds for a thief to procure your motorcycle! So, what can you do to ensure yours is safe?

The first, essential item to buy is a proper lock. Although determined thieves will persist, the harder you make it for them to steal, the less successful they will be. Therefore, the experts advise investing in a strong motorcycle U-lock and chain. So, attach your bike to a solid object and thread the chain around the bike's frame. This is better than fastening the chain through the wheel, since the wheel can be removed.

Another top tip is to consider fitting an alarm to your motorcycle. There are various types that can be found, including ones which will page you if they are set off and ones that can be fastened to a bike cover. And by getting an alarm, you are more likely to scare off potential thieves, especially if the bike is in a public place.

It's also wise to choose your parking places very carefully. Don't make a thief's job easy by nestling your bike in-between two lorries, or by parking on an abandoned street. Furthermore, you could always disable your bike before going off. This could be as simple as taking out the main fuse or installing a hidden-cut out switch. Just remember how to get it working again!

The final recommendation is to get covered. Of course, you can do everything to prevent thieves, but it is an unfortunate reality that can strike. But by ensuring you have suitable [http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/]motorcycle insurance in place, you can save yourself a lot of cash, as well as a lot of heartache.

Indeed, there are numerous packages available, from fully comprehensive to third party insurance and it's also possible to tailor them to meet your exact requirements. So, make sure you're properly covered before you hit the road!

5 Latest Tips For Cross-country Motorcycle Road Trips

5 Latest Tips For Cross-country Motorcycle Road Trips
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jenny_Carson]Jenny Carson

Have you ever motorcycled coast-to-coast? Taking a day trip is one thing. Taking a weekend trip is another thing. However, taking a coast-to-coast trip is a completely different ball of wax. It requires much more planning and consideration. Of course, the trip should include a degree of spontaneity. However, considering the extremely long length of the trip, it is vital to be simultaneously as prepared as possible. Here are some tips to make a cross-country road trip successful:

1. Enjoy regionalism

A lesson I have learned in my worldwide travels is that cities are the same everywhere. When enjoying a cross-country road trip, take the back roads to experience some true local color. Chat with locals or read local newspapers to learn about where to find the best local cuisine, special public events, etc.

2. Pack lightly

There are several justifications for packing lightly. Of course, you will need to bring certain gear, such as Harley Davidson motorcycle boots. However, keep in mind that few heavyweight motorcycles that manufacturers produce are truly apt for heavy loads. Some items that you should certainly consider stuffing into your motorcycle saddlebags include:

• camera
• clothing
• raingear
• tire-repair kit
• toiletries
• tools

Packing light may cause some minor inconveniences, such as needing to wash your clothes frequently. However, overall, the approach is worthwhile.

3. Prevent situations before they happen

The last situation you want to be in is stranded in the middle of nowhere-in an unfamiliar town or country. Sure, "stuff" happens, but you can prevent many problems with your chopper, by having a dealer service it prior to your hitting the road. Also, bring your cell phone and join a club that provides roadside assistance. All of these steps will ultimately allow you enjoy your trip as much as possible.

4. Two can be company OR a crowd

I am extremely independent and prefer to travel solo. The main benefit of traveling alone is that you can set your own schedule. There is no waiting for a sidekick. Riding solo, you truly feel the sense of freedom that road trips provide.

That said, you could enjoy several benefits by traveling with a sidekick. You will be more secure, particularly in more secluded regions. Furthermore, you will have some extra help for making repairs.

5. Plan for pleasant surprises

Certainly, you should do a significant amount of planning prior to a cross-country road trip. However, also provide yourself with some opportunities for pleasant surprises. For instance, you may want to avoid making hotel reservations, but instead plan to arrive at a particular area by nightfall. In addition, you could avoid planning all of your routes. Sometimes locals can suggest more scenic course that you could have missed by taking a different route.

Taking a cross-country motorcycle tour may seem quite daunting at first. However, following some basic guidelines can make your experience more enjoyable and successful. Find a balance between preparing for your trip and creating opportunities to expect the unexpected. Happy riding!

How to Choose the Right Type of Motorcycle
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jay_Gaulard]Jay Gaulard

So you want to buy a motorcycle? Believe it or not, you have a lot of decisions to make before you are ready to make a purchase. There are dozens of types of motorcycles on the market today, and you will need to make sure you get one that is the right fit for you.

Main Types of Road Bikes

Road bikes are the bikes you will use on paved roads. Most people who are in the market for a motorcycle will choose this type of bike. These bikes are very fuel-efficient and typically have top speeds between 100 and 125 mph. There are multiple types of road bikes you can choose from.

Cruisers include bikes made by Harley-Davidson and Excelsior-Henderson among other manufacturers. When you sit on this bike, your feet will be facing forward. Most cruisers require you to keep your hands up and your spine straight. Choppers are a common type of cruiser. These are designed for comfort on long rides, not necessarily great speed. Many cruisers are custom made for their owners.

A sport bike is a bike that is designed for speed and handles well. It can stop and accelerate quickly and is incredibly maneuverable. These are sometimes called "crotch rockets." They have a lightweight frame and a high performance engine. The foot pegs are typically quite high, requiring the rider to hold his legs close to the body. The rider generally has to lean forward in order to reach the hand controls.

Those who travel long distances on a regular basis or use their bikes for a long commute may wish to look for a touring model. These bikes have large screens, hold more fuel, and have more comfortable seats than other models. They are less sporty than the first two types, but are far more practical.

Naked bikes are bikes that have few extras. These street bikes are not covered with shiny body panels and do not have screens. They are simply an engine and a seat with the necessary controls. Functionality and performance are the main goals of these bikes.

If you are unsure about the bike you want, head to a dealership and test-drive a few different types. You will find one that is comfortable for you. This is the type of bike you should look for once you are ready to buy.

Scooters

While you may not think of a scooter as a motorcycle, it is does fall in this category. Scooters or motor scooters typically have small wheels and engines. They do not have foot bars, but the rider's feet sit in front of him on a platform that is part of a step-through frame. These are not designed for speed, but they are designed to be a convenient, portable means of transportation. These are becoming more and more sporty in design as they gain popularity, especially among city dwellers.

Off-Road Motorcycles

Off-road bikes, which are sometimes called dirt bikes, have small, lightweight engines. They have simple construction and have little to no bodywork, because they are not designed for show. The tires are designed for rugged trail riding, and are large and knobby to aid the bike in maintaining traction. These bikes are used for off-road sports, not as a means of transportation. They are usually not street-legal.

Dual-Sport Motorcycles

For those who want to enjoy off-roading with their bikes but also want their motorcycle to be a means of transportation, dual-sport bikes are probably the best option. These bikes can be legally driven on the street, but they are also built durably enough to handle riding off road. There are several types of dual-sport bikes available.

A hypermotard has a powerful engine and is equipped with road tires and rims. The rest of the bike resembles an off road bike. Supermotards are similar bikes. They are known for their good handling on concrete and fast acceleration.

Adventure-touring bikes are road bikes that can go off road on gravel and dirt paths. They are not intended for use in motorbike sports, but those who enjoy touring the outdoors and do not want to be confined to paved roads will find these a good fit.

Get Your License

Before you can ride your bike, you need to have a motorcycle license. Check with your local DMV to find out the rules and regulations in your state regarding motorcycle riders on the road. You may need to take a motorcycle riding safety course. Remember, very little stands between you and the pavement when you are on a motorcycle, so you need to make sure you know how to handle the bike safely. Be sure to practice riding in a variety of conditions, especially wet conditions, before you head out on the open road. If you are not fully prepared for varying road conditions, you could be putting your life and the lives of those around you at risk when you take your bike on the road.

Getting the Right Gear

One of the most important pieces of gear you will need is a helmet. Some states do not require a helmet, but it is a very necessary piece of safety equipment. You will want to get a leather coat and gloves to protect your skin when you ride. Eye gear is required in all states, even those that do not require helmet use. Make sure you purchase eyewear that is designed to be used by motorcycle riders.

Finding the Right Bike

Once you have determined the general style of motorcycle you want, the search begins to find the one that best fits your tastes and needs. There are many places you can go to find the perfect bike. The most obvious option is a motorcycle dealership. If you want a brand new bike, this is the only option. However, if you are shopping for a used bike, you may find that an individual owner will offer you a better price.

Advantages of riding a motorcycle

The Advantages of Riding a Motorcycle!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Irida_Sangemino]Irida Sangemino

When my husband first planted the seed that he would love to own a motorcycle I tried to ignore it. For all the obvious reasons like initial cost, traffic safety issues, less structural protection, and defiant biker myths, I felt intimidated and scared. Now, two years later and a few rides under my belt, I wished I had opened up sooner.

The idea of riding on a motorcycle was overwhelmingly enticing, but also quite frightening, as every time I came near a motorized two-wheeler I kept recalling the motorcycle accident I had witnessed as a child, and the young man desperately calling out for his mother. Nine at the time, I was horrified of the victim lying on the cobblestone road, his leg weirdly twisted and blood running all over his face. If you ask me, I honestly do not recall anything about his bike, nor if he was wearing a helmet, and this being the mid-sixties I doubt he was. All I could focus on at the time was his pain and the horror in his eyes.

Today I recognize that accidents happen and that it does not matter where you are, what you do or are using to get around. Heck, you can get hit by a bus just crossing the road. All I know is that riding a motorcycle has many advantages which I, as a thrifty budgeter and rational adult can greatly appreciate.

Here are several advantages that come with owing and riding a motorcycle.

- It is cost effective, dodging record fuel bills.

- It reduces your dependence on foreign oil and helps the country's economy.

- It reduces carbon emissions tremendously compared to driving a car.

- It allows you to be more flexible in traffic.

- It permits you to use car pool lanes.

- It makes parking easier. A bike parks in a third of the space of a car and angle parking is permitted. A bike can also be park on sidewalks in front of stores and restaurants.

- It saves you on maintenance and repair bills compared to cars. Motorcycle engines are easier to access and you can do more of the upkeep yourself, something bikers pride themselves on.

- It gives you the ability to pull over anytime. This advantage comes in handy when you got lost and need directions, or when you are traveling in formation and need to regroup.

- It is less boring and falling at the wheel is less of a possibility. If not the noise, the wind in your face will keep you awake.

- It lets you connect better with the environment. On a bike, you tend to enjoy your surroundings more, keeping you more alert and making the trip more enjoyable and stress relieving.

- Last but not least: riding a bike looks cool and appealing for both men and women and gets you off the couch!
